Development and Implementation of a New Telerehabilitation System for Audio-visual Stimulation Training in Hemianopia

To demonstrate the effectiveness of neuro-visual rehabilitation system protocols in telemedicine, promoting home-based treatment to reduce costs associated with hospitalization.

Protocol

The patient sits at a distance of 57 cm in front of the device. While maintaining the fixation point at the center, they must direct their gaze toward the presented stimuli and signal their detection by pressing a button. Unimodal visual, unimodal auditory, and bimodal stimuli (audio+sound, both spatially and temporally coincident and non-coincident) are presented. The treatment lasts from 4 to 6 weeks with daily sessions of 100 stimuli.

Results

All patients completed the treatment within 5 weeks and were able to follow the treatment independently at home, installing the device without difficulty in complete autonomy. It was demonstrated for the first time that telerehabilitation treatment provides added value to standard treatment protocols.
