Brain polarization of parietal cortex augments training-induced improvement of visual exploratory and attentional skills
Brain Research (2010)
Acquired homonymous visual field defects (HVFD) result in significant disability and reduce quality of life. Telerehabilitation represents an option to continue therapy in the chronic phase independently, intensively, and actively at home, under remote specialist supervision.
This clinical study evaluates the efficacy of a home-based and remotely supervised compensatory audiovisual training (AVT) in 26 adults with chronic visual disturbances from visual field defects (HVFD) following brain injury. Home-based AVT improves visual search accuracy and speed, reading, mood, and disability in activities of daily living, with improvements persisting up to 6 months after the end of training.
Finally, the telerehabilitation version of AVT produces effects comparable to those achieved in person.
