The challenges of change in neurology, between hospital and community care
This is the theme of the XVIII AINAT National Congress, and it runs through every session. At the center is the management of the chronic neurological patient, which calls for constant dialogue between general practice, community outpatient clinics, and hospital and university centers.
AINAT was founded twenty years ago in Campania. Today it operates across Italy and has recently been added to the official register of Scientific Societies.
The congress, hosted at the Camera di Commercio Toscana Nord-Ovest in Pisa, a short walk from Pisa Centrale station, is CME-accredited and is aimed at every professional who follows the neurological patient: neurologists, neurophysiopathologists, physiatrists, geriatricians, general practitioners, neuropsychologists, physical therapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists.
The program, day by day
Friday, October 2
Sessions open at 2:00 p.m. The afternoon is dedicated to migraine, from anti-CGRP therapies to outpatient clinic management and waiting-list handling. Next comes sleep neurophysiopathology, introduced by Ugo Faraguna's keynote lecture on sleep, learning and memory. In the evening, the joint AINAT-SIMG round table on headache, dementia and neuropathic pain in community medicine. The day closes with the opening ceremony and Marco Malvaldi's inaugural lecture.
Saturday, October 3
The day opens with neurology and artificial intelligence and with Emiliano Ricciardi's keynote lecture on brain plasticity. Sessions follow on epilepsy, functional neurological disorders, Alzheimer's disease and dementia in the hospital-to-community continuum, neurodegenerative diseases (with a focus on community-based rehabilitation in Parkinson's disease) and neuromuscular diseases.
Sunday, October 4
The morning is devoted to the immune aspects of neuromuscular diseases, including CIDP and myasthenia gravis, and to demyelinating diseases. The last session covers cerebrovascular disease and rehabilitation. Topics include oral anticoagulants in stroke prevention and rehabilitative neurology in the post-acute phase.
Carmelo Chisari will also speak at 12:10 p.m. on Devices in the cognitive rehabilitation of post-stroke hemianopia. Sessions close at 1:00 p.m.
