This review explores the significant evolution of sports rehabilitation, with 21st-century neuroplasticity-driven approaches, with a specific focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The primary objective is to understand how neuroplasticity, motor control, and sensorimotor re-education can optimize recovery, reduce the risk of re-injury, and improve long-term athletic performance.

Results

The integration of neurosciences in sports rehabilitation represents a turning point in the recovery process. Through the application of neuroplasticity concepts, rehabilitation specialists can address the complex interactions between physical and neurocognitive components that influence outcomes following ACL injuries.

Technological innovations and interdisciplinary collaboration will continue to advance and optimize rehabilitation protocols. By leveraging neuroplasticity and advanced technologies, the field can shift from an approach focused exclusively on physical restoration to comprehensive recovery models capable of significantly reducing re-injury risks and optimizing athletic performance.
